→ I'm coming from abroad. Do I need a visa to enter Germany?
Most likely not, but be sure to check with your own government and your specific requirements.
→ Can I come on my own?
Absolutely! Most of our participants actually come on their own, and many do not know anyone else who is coming. This training is inclusive, and we strive to create a culture of belonging through group exercises and daily sharing circles.
→Do I need a DJ controller?
Yes, for this training you will need to bring a DJ Controller. We recommend the Pioneer DDJ-FLX4 if you are just starting out, though you are welcome to bring any controller you prefer. Please ensure you have DJ software installed on your computer that is compatible with your controller. If you would like support in choosing a controller, please info@dancethemedicine.com.
→ What DJ software do you teach?
The landscape of music has changed significantly in recent years, and this includes DJ software. In response, DTM has diversified its teaching model to support students using Serato, Rekordbox, and djay by Algoriddim. For those joining as complete beginners, we recommend starting with Traktor Play. While the majority of our teaching team primarily use Traktor Pro and Rekordbox, they are able to support all major professional DJ software platforms.
→ Is this a beginner's training?
The DTM in-person DJ School offers training ideal for supporting both complete beginners and conscious dance professionals with some DJ-ing experience. We provide personalized 1-on-1 sessions during the training and at times will divide participants into groups based on skill level.
→ Will I receive a certification?
Yes, after successful completion of the in-person part of the training, you’ll receive a certificate of completion for this course. Certificates are sent as a PDF on request.
→ What's your cancellation & refund policy?
Cancellations on your part are non-refundable, but deposits can be transferred to a future DTM event. All in-person trainings require a minimum of 15 participants to proceed. If this number isn’t met, your payment will be fully refunded. We encourage you to insure your travel tickets, as DTM can’t take responsibility for travel cancellation costs.
→ If I can no longer make it, can I transfer my booking to someone?
If you transfer your booking to someone else, there's a €100 admin fee. If the retreat is full, and you want us to sell your spot, we'll keep your deposit and refund the balance only if we find a full-paying replacement. Booking transfers and posts on our social media are allowed only when the training is fully booked.
→ What are the payment requirements and do you have payment plans?
A non-refundable deposit is required to book and secure your place. Balance due 15 days before the retreat starts. Please carefully read our Retreat Terms & Conditions as by booking on our retreat, you become legally bound by these terms. We offer flexible payments plans, please inquire with info@dancethemedicine.com
→ I'm not sure which path is right for me. Can you please advise me?
Absolutely! Simply send us an email at info@dancethemedicine.com or book a 30 minute consultation with Bernice.

"The Beginners DJ School not only fulfilled my dream of being a DJ, but it allowed me to develop and create my own music/dance medicine flavour for the world to experience. I'm so excited about what is ahead for me, and I know that I am in good hands: the people I met are so incredible, we will forever be connected and follow each other's journey, and that in itself is a gift!"
→ Maïté Azarov • San Francisco, USA
"Overall, it went beyond my expectations. I thought I would just learn how to be a DJ. But I found a community, support, and courage to be strong, daring and me! I improved fast and am shocked at where I am today:…I am thankful for the diversity in our group, of age, gender, race and styles, countries and cultures. It was so great to meet all those people, not even knowing what job they might have, but knowing what music they dance to!"
→ Héloïse Ferber • Bagnolet, France
The training was a great continuation of my (limited) experience of Traktor and as a Conscious DJ. To learn from well experienced DJ’s is a gift. The joy and ease in their teaching is contagious. Sooo much information is shared, including all that they wrote in the manual, for you to play with, and to continue with after the training. Worth every cent...I really enjoyed it. And now it's up to me...THANK YOU !!

A dedicated WhatsApp group for continuous networking and support among fellow DJ cohorts during and after the training
Access to monthly meet-ups with DTM graduates from all trainings & our team, held every 3rd Thursday of the month
Meet the team and each other in the way we know best—through dance! After settling in and covering the essentials, we will divide you into small groups that will come together each day throughout the week, providing a space for mutual support and connection as you learn and grow together.
On our first full day, we focus on ensuring everyone is set up for success. We'll check your DJ software is properly installed (please note: it must be installed before arrival), tracks are imported in a way that keeps your collection neat and organized, and preferences are configured to lay a solid foundation for a smooth and successful learning journey.
We don’t teach you how to build sets; we help you uncover how you build sets. The DTM Set Creation Model is unique in that it provides just enough structure to allow your innate musical talent to shine. We’ll also explore the browser section of your software, showing you how to set it up in a way that works best for your personal workflow with music.
Tracks—our passion! We dive deep into how to find the perfect tracks, where to purchase them, and which formats are best for your DJ setup. But that’s just the beginning. We’ll also explore the ins and outs of your decks' layout and functions to ensure you're using them to their full potential. By the end of this session, you'll have a solid understanding of not just what to play, but how to set yourself up for a smooth, seamless DJ experience.
Your day off—sort of. It's a chance to have a one-on-one session with a DTM DJ coach, go hunting for fresh tracks, work on your playlist, get a professional headshot taken, and connect with your fellow participants. Think of it as a well-earned break in the middle of an intense, immersive learning experience—giving you time to recharge while still making progress on your DJ journey
Today is dedicated entirely to mastering transitions and becoming proficient with the mixer section of both your hardware and software. We’ll begin by focusing on the three foundational skills essential for smooth, professional transitions, ensuring you build a strong and reliable foundation. Before long, you’ll be looping, EQing, and using FX with confidence and ease.
We wrap up the teachings in the morning, leaving time for a celebration to say goodbye in the same way we said hello—with a dance. Each graduation is unique, depending on our location, but it always includes dancing, a meaningful ritual, and plenty of fun to mark the occasion
